In today’s time, diabetes is a fast-growing disease. According to WHO, 8.7% of the diabetic population in India belongs to 20 to 70 years of age group.

Diabetes is a disorder that occurs when the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin or the body becomes insulin resistant. Due to this, glucose starts increasing in the blood. This happens because of improper functioning of insulin that controls blood sugar levels.

The more cases of diabetes are seen these days due to:

  • Unhealthy diet
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Environmental factors

Types of Diabetes:

Type 1 Diabetes

It is a condition when the pancreas produces less or no insulin. It happens when the body’s own immune cells start attacking beta cells of the pancreas. This hampers the normal functioning of the pancreas. Hence, the pancreas starts producing less or no insulin.

Type 2 Diabetes

It happens when the pancreas is either not producing enough insulin or when the body fails to respond to insulin.

Gestational Diabetes

It is a temporary condition of raised blood sugar levels during pregnancy.
